KYAMBOGO'S GUILD MWEBESA REAGAN FACES TOUGH TIME AS THE UNIVERSITY INCREASES TUITION
Background
According to the university administration, the tuition fees will see a rise across various programs. This adjustment will affect both undergraduate and postgraduate courses, with specific increments varying depending on the faculty and course requirements. The administration emphasized that the decision was not made lightly but was necessary to maintain the university's standards in light of economic pressures
Representation and Decision-Making
It's important to clarify that students are represented on all major University committees, whether it be the Senate or the Council—the overall governing body where these matters are raised. This ensures that student voices are heard in the decision-making process. The student leaders on the Council include the Guild President Mwebesa Reagan, Vice Guild President Ashaba Hope, and Female Representative to the Council Chepokomoi Edith.
Basis of increment
The recent fee increments were implemented based on recommendations from the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) when these programs were reviewed. These recommendations were not arbitrary but resulted from a thorough evaluation of the university’s financial needs and educational quality standards.
Impact on Students
It’s crucial to note that these increments only affect newly admitted students and not continuing ones. This approach aims to lessen the financial burden on those already enrolled while addressing the university's revenue needs.
Issues of Concern
Students have raised concerns about the delayed payment of lecturers, which has led to exams not being uploaded on time. This issue is primarily due to the low revenue generated from the same programs. The fee increment recommendations were made and approved by the very committees where student leaders sit, highlighting the necessity of these changes to ensure operational stability and timely academic processes.

The enstatement and popular slogan Policy review and enactment has left many mouth watering in regards to the increment.
Comparative Tuition Fees
Despite the increments, Kyambogo University remains the university with the lowest tuition fees among all universities in Uganda. In fact, the fees are even lower than those of many secondary schools attended by most students. This comparison underscores the university’s commitment to keeping education affordable.
The new tuition rates are for the reviewed courses and apply only to Year One students. Guild leaders, including Mwebesa Reagan, Ashaba Hope and Chepokomoi Edith were present in the Senate Council meeting when the increment was being passed , a confidential source from top management informed Campus Eagle media .
Various Kyambogo University groups were awash with a circulating document that the 18th Guild President Tuwine Serge signed the tuition increment policy during his regime ,to note the document had no heading which made the students fraternity to doubt its authenticity and legitimacy .
Shortly after circulation of the document, the guild president Mwebesa Reagan realised a letter condoning the increment.
