20TH GUILD HOUSE DISAPPOINTMENTS KYAMBOGO UNIVERSITY STUDENTS, HANDS THEM OVER TO THE WOLVES
students at Kyambogo University are losing trust in the leadership of the 20th Guild House, headed by HE Mwebesa Reagan from the UYD party. Mwebesa secured victory in the December 2023 elections, defeating NUP's Nakayenga Samuel and independent candidate Jakisa Timothy and others
During the campaign, Mwebesa's popular slogan, "Policy Review and Enactment," resonated with students, who hoped for action on pressing issues like the surcharge policy. However, since taking office, no concrete steps have been taken to address the 50,000 Ugandan Shilling surcharge.
The only response so far has been a letter from the Minister of Academic and Professional Affairs, emphasizing deadlines for compliance rather than addressing the concerns raised by students. The apparent lack of progress on campaign promises has left many students disillusioned with the current guild leadership.
The letter issued by the 20th guild minister for Academic and professional affairs doesn't portray any differences from the circular of the university bursar .
Some students were heard saying " they lack what to do "
One of the most oppressing policy at Kyambogo is the fees payment policy which ultimately leads to surcharge in case one doesn't pay in the time bounds allocated. The 19th guild president HE Wafula Edrine Koholo fought surcharge with his slogan Radical days are here again, during which surcharge was waived off for one semester.
Mwebesa's policy review and enactment slogan swide many thinking there would be changes in the fees payment policy .Unfortunately among the policies that the Mwebesa has focused on , surcharge is not inclusive . Bear your cross , pay your tuition on time , failure to pay on time , pay your surcharge .
The policies which the guild president is focusing on are The sexual harassment policy and the Intellectual property policy
We knew him, even Jakisa was a better candidate than him
